Popular Tourist Attractions in North Cyprus

There are many places and monuments of historical importance in North Cyprus. Tourists will find a friendly population and their holiday will become a memorable experience.

Famagusta – Wealthy town

Famagusta is a wonderful place for a day trip, and an excellent base for exploring the area. You can wander amongst the old buildings of the walled town and enjoy the sight of the modern port from Othello's Tower.

Kantara Castle

Kantara lies furthest to the east. At 630m above sea level. "Kantara" in Arabic means a bridge or an arch. This is an appropriate name, as the castle is located at a point which bridges the mountain range and commands views of both the north and the south coasts.

Girne - Kyrenia

Girne is possibly the best holiday area on the island, bringing history to visitors while entertaining them. You can catch the nostalgia by visiting the historic places and travelling around its streets, sensing the smells of jasmine and orange blossom. You can taste its delicious cuisine in the plentiful restaurants and sip your coffee at coffee houses during summer evenings.

Girne or Kyrenia Castle

Castle was constructed to protect the town against the Arab raids in the 7th century. The Shipwreck Museum which houses the oldest recovered shipwreck in history is located here. Another place not to miss is the Bellapais Monastery and St. Hilarion Castle, built once again to defend the island against the Arab raids.

The Karpaz Peninsula

The Karpas covers an important part of the island and extends to 80 kilometers in length and up to 20 in width. It is one of the most unspoiled places in the whole of the Mediterranean region. The Karpas is home to an outstanding variety of wildlife and its northern and eastern shores have some of the most beautiful and deserted beaches in North Cyprus - in fact in the whole of the island.

Guzelyurt

This museum is home to a collection ranging from the prehistoric age of Cyprus to the Byzantine period. Also in Guzelyurt is St. Mamas Monastery, dating back to the 18th century and which contains art going back to the 16th century.

North Cyprus - Hottest Location for Property Investment

North Cyprus, known officially as the Turkish Republic of Northern (TRNC) is an independent republic located in the north of North Cyprus.

North is a part of Mediterranean where the sun shines for 300 days a year and the local people are genuinely pleased to welcome you to their homeland.

North is one of the hottest locations for new property developments, with its sights firmly set on the European holiday home market. New property developments in North follow the familiar pattern of other Mediterranean counties, focusing either around a major facility, such as a golf course, or on glorious views of coast or mountains.

If you are looking for investment in Property in North Cyprus then these following points might help you take better decision before investing.

Choose Your Ideal Location

North Cyprus is a beautiful country with several distinct areas, each with their own particular appeal. If you are buying a home for yourself, decide what you want most; walking distance to a sandy beach, or a mountainside location with views over the sea.

Make a short list of one or two areas that interest you, then check your online forums for local insights, such as good schools, top restaurants or problems with water supplies etc.

Check Online Information

When considering buying property in North Cyprus, always research your options online first. Most North Cyprus property developments have websites complete with glossy site maps and impressive floor plans, which only tell half the story.

For the full picture, join a North property online forum, where real buyers compare experiences of purchasing at specific developments.

Take Advice of Real Estate Agent

Visit local estate agents and get details of properties in your chosen areas. Only accept details on properties within your price range and arrange viewings for any properties that tick all the boxes. Follow the estate agent in your own car to any property viewings, so if you don't like them, you can swiftly move on.

Understanding TRNC Policy

You must ensure your property comes with a Turkish Republic of Northern (TRNC) freehold deed. Due to the division of North Cyprus in 1974, these come in four formats;

1. Pre 1974 Turkish Freehold Title, for land or property owned by a Turkish Cypriot before 1974.
2. Pre 1974 Foreign Freehold Title, for land or property owned by a foreign national before 1974. These titles are internationally recognized.
3. TRNC Exchange Title, for land or property given to a Turkish Cypriot in exchange for land and property they owned in south before 1974, and have relinquished their rights to.
4. TRNC TMD Title, for land given to Turkish Cypriots for military or government service, or to settlers.

Invest in New Properties

If you want to buy a North Cyprus property you can move straight into, consider resales at recently completed developments.

Your property should be already sorted with all utilities, minor snagging issues ironed out, and yet the property should still be in excellent condition. Unlike new build properties, where your money may be tied up for two years with no return, a resale property can be enjoyed or rented out as soon as you get the keys.
